Talk by Victoria Ennion

Foliage in Design

18th January 2012

Victoria Ennion gave the first talk of our winter season and it was entitled 'Foliage in Design'. Several people rang me to ask if it was a talk about Floral Arrangement. As Victoria is a Garden Designer I could assure them that it was about planting for the garden. It proved to be very interesting and informative. Victoria kept the audience involved so there was no chance of anyone falling asleep, as can happen with a slide presentation. We were told of the various ways that foliage could add to the presentation of the garden, particularly for an all season effect. Different types of leaf shape and texture were shown, and the way that different coloured greens, colours and leaf shape can be combined. I went home and looked at my garden the next day, and thought I have 2 variegated leaf shrubs too close together there. There was a very good attendance at this meeting, the best for a long time – over 50. That bode well for the coming year.
