Sheffield Park Coach Outing

17 October 2009

It has become a tradition that on alternate years the Garden Club has either a Coach Outing or a 4-day holiday.

This year was the turn of the coach outing and we went to the National Trust property of Sheffield Park, not in Sheffield but in West Sussex. This garden has over 700 trees and several large and spectacular lakes. It has 2 main seasons, in the Spring it is a feast of rhododendrons and camellias, and in the Autumn it is famous for its autumn colours. At both times the spectacle is enhanced by reflections in the lakes. As the time of autumn colour at it best varies, you have to take potluck. If we had gone a week or two later, I am sure that there would have been more colour; but to offset that we went on a beautiful sunny day, and there was still enough colour to make it very worth while.

33 members went on the outing and all said that they had really enjoyed it. What more could you ask?
