This was a Thursday afternoon visit and again we were very lucky with the weather. Arriving at Farleigh House was rather different to our usual visits as we went through very grand gates and parked in front of a grand stately home. The Earl and Countess of Portsmouth own the house and estate. Lady Portsmouth herself showed us round the garden and made the visit all the more interesting. The garden had been designed by a professional 18 years ago and looked remarkably mature. There were wonderful wrought iron gates, also lovely hedging; rose gardens; flower gardens and a super greenhouse. The Yew hedges are trimmed and the cuttings used for making the drug that fights cancer. We were accompanied on our tour by 2 bouncy dogs. 19 members attended.
