Talk by Phil Green
7th February 2008
Mr. Green is a wild life photographer. Although this is a hobby that he has in his retirement, his photos are of a very high quality. He showed us pictures of birds, moths and butterflies, and fungi. It was amazing to see the variety, colour and shape of all the different fungi. Mr. Green talked about the methods he has to us to get some of his photos, particularly those of the birds and moths. It all made for a very enjoyable evening.
In the notices, the Chairman relayed the RHS concern about a new pest – the Fuchsia Gall Mite. It is a microscopic insect, but the results of an infection are obvious. As the first reports were in Fareham, Hampshire, and the DEFRA is concerned to know if it is spreading, members were asked to look out for the pest and report if they see signs of it. The pest attacks Hardy fuchsias.
